<Handmade Memories> consists of six separate videos, each featuring a two-channel display that records the life experiences of elderly Koreans whom Jung encountered in various parks around Seoul. In each video, Jung begins his interview with the strangers by asking, “What was the most memorable event in your life?”. One screen shows the interview recording, while the other screen displays a dramatic, elaborate hand-made set reconstructing those memories. The six videos are titled ‘Jeju Island Camel’, ‘6x6 Manor’, ‘Legend and Poverty’, ‘On the Dividing Line Between Body and Soul’, ‘Barley Field’, and ‘TV Star’. Through this combination of imagery and narrative, the work evokes a longing for bygone times and old wounds, questioning the relationship between reality and fiction through the collision of displaced times. 〈수공기억〉은 6점의 비디오로 구성된 시리즈 작품으로, 서울 곳곳의 공원에서 만난 노인들의 인생 경험을 기록한다. 각 작품은 두 개의 화면으로 이루어져 있으며, 작가는 “인생에서 가장 기억에 남는 일은 무엇입니까?”라는 질문으로 인터뷰를 시작한다. 화면의 한쪽은 노인들이 그 동안의 인생에서 가장 기억에 남는 일화를 이야기하는 인터뷰 형식의 기록 영상이, 나머지 한쪽에는 그 기억을 바탕으로 무대 세트를 만들어 정교하고 드라마틱하게 재구성한 영상이 상영된다. 이 연작은 ‘제주도 낙타’, ‘육간대청’, ‘가난과 전설’, ‘ 영과 육의 갈림길’, ‘보리밭’, ‘아나운서’라는 제목을 가졌다. 이미지와 이야기의 조합 안에서 여러 개의 공간의 층을 깨닫게 되며, 다시 돌아갈 수 없는 시간에 대한 동경, 상처에 대한 기억, 혹은 재조합된 새로운 역사와 같은 이 작품은 어긋난 시간들의 만남을 통해 다시금 현실과 허구의 관계를 묻고 있다.
