<Documentary Nostalgia> is a video work filmed without editing on May 15, 2007, in the exhibition hall of the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art. From its namesake of documenting nostalgia, this work transforms the museum into a movie set, and six memories from the artist's past are transformed into landscapes one by one. Shot in one continuous 84 minute take, viewers’ expectations are challenged as workers in orange suits, who would not normally appear in a film, emerge to move the props and lighting. performs before the camera as a single performance, without any filtration, the errors that cannot be captured within the present and past, and within records and memories. The processes of transitioning from the mise en scene of creating one scene into scenes within another fragment of memory seem to reveal in detail the trick of how magic operates. However, just as one still admires the mystery of magic even after a trick is complete, viewers find themselves immersed in the scenes on the screen. 〈다큐멘터리 노스텔지아〉는 2007년 5월 15일 국립현대미술관 전시실에서 편집 없이 촬영된 영상 작품이다. 향수를 기록한다는 제목의 이 작품은 미술관을 영화 세트장으로 바꾸고, 작가의 과거 속 6개의 기억이 하나씩 풍경으로 변형되어간다. One take 기법으로 84분간 촬영된 이 영상은 통상 영화 속에 등장하지 않는 소품과 조명을 움직이는 작업자들이 오렌지색 작업복을 입고 등장하여 사람들의 기대를 뒤집어 놓는다. ‘다큐멘터리 노스텔지아’는 현재와 과거, 그리고 기록과 기억 속에 있는 카메라에 담아낼 수 없는 오차들을 가감 없이 하나의 퍼포먼스로서 카메라 앞에서 수행해나간다. 하나의 장면을 만드는 미장센으로부터 다른 기억의 파편 속 장면들로 변이해가는 과정들은 마치 마법이 어떤 구조로 작동하는지 세세히 그 눈속임을 알려주는 듯하다. 그러나 하나의 장면이 완성되어도 여전히 마술의 신비로움에 감탄하듯이 화면의 장면들에 스스로 몰입하는 자신을 발견하게 된다.
