Jung Yeondoo is an artist who primarily works with media in photography and video, incorporating performance both directly and indirectly. His mixed-media artworks bridge the context of visual art, performance, theater and film, blending situations from unfamiliar cultural environments. Jung has linked individuals across different times and spaces, merging documentary with fiction and exploring the interplay between individuals and society. At the level of representation, he adheres to an ironic approach in which he re-examines reality while touching on the languages of poetry, music, and theater. Relationships and performativity are important agencies of Jung’s artistic practice that he has adhered to since his early work, such as through his visits to the sites of historic incidents or his long-term interviews with the people who experienced those events.
Jung was selected as Artist of the Year 2007 (MMCA). He completed his studies in Sculpture at Central Saint Martins College and obtained an MFA from Goldsmiths College, University of London. Currently, he serves as an Associate Professor in the Department of Fine Arts at Sungkyunkwan University.
